It was hot, humid and windy on Oberoi beach – our venue for the 404th run. The Mards welcoming committee was at post to welcome us with crutches and all. Papa Mard got such a shock when his daughter announced that she was getting married that he threw himself down from the stair case. You did not have to resort to that Eric! You only had to phone Befrienders (8009393). The call is free!
Loyal as always, 50 odd hashers turned up. An 8 kms challenge had been set for us by the Mards, plus Cars (who were injured later). Eric’s setting technique was to point with his crutch where to put the blobs, and the rest of the clan obliged. Thus under sweltering heat, well imbued with suncream , donned in hats, quite sensibly, we followed the first few blobs of flour which led us initially along the beach and through freshly cultivated open fields. The check points allowed us to cash in on the irrigation system in operation. That was so refreshing!! Gave us enough stamina until we reached the beer stop. The heat proved too much for some of us who took advantage of the proximity of the ON ON site, which was in view, and ventured back “HOME” to join the non starters and late comers!! A good hour had elapsed before the toughies came back all hot and bothered but happy. “It was long but nice” (she said!). Thanks to the Mards for a good Hash. Thanks also for the nutritious food!
RA’s Down’s Down’s:
Pascale and Gilbert for advertising Citroen car seats on the Hash.
Clive, being a Citroen man and rally mad, had to demonstrate driving a rally car.
Arlene for sporting a drinking bottle and cooler bag that resembles a gear stick – (strategically placed between her knees)– which Clive enjoys playing with!
Smelly Blue:
Finally, after 2½ Months, it was back! Father Xmas offered it to the oldest and one of the fastest runners. Who on earth would that be!!??
Kiddies Award:
Nick passed it on to.. Quote: “the one on the box” who happened to be Isabelle; not sealed with a kiss as he is too little!
Prize giving:
The Babet family; Jean Francois & Michele and Blob were awarded a 50th run T Shirt. Well done!
Change over:
Lord Russell, our highly estimated GM handed over the GMship to Captain Nimmo.
Our new GM duly thanked Lord Russell for his excellent work during his time in the Circle.
2003 was an eventful and successful year under Lord Russell. Thank you very much Bob for everything.
Initiation ceremony:
The outgoing and incoming GMs had a ceremonial beer in the ceremonial mug. A big welcome to Captain Nimmo. Let’s hope it will be plain sailing for you!
