Welcome back Philia! Good to see you ‘up and about’ again.
Summer has definitely arrived. It was getting very hot and dry out there. Alan claimed to have spotted this hash-site from a plane on a flight into Mauritius. Good eyesight these hashers.
By the time he landed he’d sketched out the hash on the back of an Air Mauritius landing card.
This was advertised as a Training Run: which the hares took to mean “run like a train”! Not an express train, however, but one stopping at every station from here to eternity.
27 checks! We were treated to a rarely seen viewpoint, on a disused bridge over a picturesque river overlooked by a giant flame-dragon tree. Then a jaunt through the undergrowth, briefly distracted by a false trail in flagrant contravention of established hash convention, led via an interesting diversion over a small hump to a solid run in and around the fields.
Eventually some began running out of steam, while others went non-stop to the On-on.
Overall there was almost unanimous praise for the hares, with one notable exception….(He who got lost !)
Sinners
Eric was standing in as RA today, his authority in no way undermined by a half-hearted attempt to pull down his shorts. The short-cutters (and not the short-pullers) were called, finally, to account. Trouble was that there were so many of them that volunteers were required to stand as representatives. 3 came forward: Mike Thompson, Perry and Blob.
The RA’s justice falls also upon the mighty: the hares were cited for illegal trail marking, causing the RA himself to go needlessly uphill.
Selina, Eric’s daughter, foolishly attempted to snitch on another hasher for wearing hiking boots. Not even paternal love and devotion could save her from a down-down for being a sneak!
Food: Many thanks to Bob and Jackie who, we understand, have been smoking sausages for days in preparation for today.
Smelly Blue. Absent today. Perhaps Barbie Doll has not yet worked up the nerve actually to wear this thing in public!
Children’s Award The illustrious order of the dodo was awarded to Stuart, who contemplated it briefly and then quickly shared it with another lad. Wise boy, Stuart.

Announcements:
1. Andy is organising the Round-Mauritius-Relay-Run for charity. He assures us that all is under control except that some of the runners don’t seem to be taking things at all seriously. Don’t let us down at the last minute please!
Anyway, he has enough volunteers who will each run either 5 or 10 km legs. About 30 more have volunteered to be stewards and check on the runners. Some more reserve runners still needed.
The idea is that we would set off on Saturday and run all night, arriving at the end (Baie du Cap) on Sunday in time for a reception/cocktail. HRH Prince Edward is scheduled to pay us a visit and meet the runners. Click here for full details
2. Training sessions are now in full swing at 5pm on Tuesdays & Thursdays at Gymkhana Club, also most days at about 5pm at Trou-aux-Cerfs. Come and join in! It may even do you some good !!
3. Would hashers please note that there is a deposit (money) on glass bottles (beer, softies)! Please do not throw them away with the rubbish (or even take them home).
4. Walks take place on most Sundays when there is no Hash. See the “Friendly walks” page for details.
